Duke was surrendered due to suspected fractured teeth. He was having trouble eating and subsequently was quite skinny. On vet inspection, his teeth were found to be sharp and had caused ulcers throughout his mouth. He was placed on a special diet to build him up again. Duke is now in perfect health, however he does have some trust issues. He is a very sensitive horse and is a one person boy. I contemplated sending him to a trainer but decided not to as I believe it will be detrimental to his mental wellbeing. He needs to bond with someone before pressure is placed upon him, therefore I have decided to try and find him a special experienced home where someone can commit to bonding with him and working with him. He is a pleasure to do anything with but he needs to trust you first. He was handled, rugged etc by my volunteers at the Sanctuary but settled in better once he was in a foster home with a family. He isn't a nasty horse, he is actually very sweet and he wants to trust. Duke will require someone who is experienced with heavy horses, someone who has another horse to keep him company and someone who has time to work with him gaining his trust and love. Tragically Duke passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. He was running around the paddock enjoying the rain when he simply passed away. The vet seems to think it may have been an aneurysm or perhaps a heart attack. He didn't suffer at all - it was immediate. Farewell our beautiful boy..
